DRINKING WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM IN VERIN GETASHEN UNDER RECONSTRUCTION

The reconstruction of drinking water supply system in the village of Verin Getashen in Gegharkunik marz was launched this July and is currently proceeding at full speed.

As Armenpress was informed by the village mayor Rubik Ghukasyan, construction works are carried out with funds provided by State Agency “Rural Areas Economic Development Programs Implementation Unit” Staff of the Government of the Republic of Armenia (RAED PIU) and relevant investments made by the village municipality. The estimated cost of the project amounted to AMD 867 million. The completion of the project was set at 1 year. The size of the investment made by Verin Getashen village municipality amounted to AMD 43 million 350 thousand, of which the municipality has already transferred AMD 14 million 300 thousand.

"The program is designed for the reconstruction of 13 km of external and 5 km of internal networks, 1 spring catchment, 2 daily regulatory reservoirs, and the construction of 2 chlorination units and 1 guard booth. The external water pipeline supplying the village was built in 1961 and is 26 km long, 13 km of which has been reconstructed in recent years with the village municipality funds. The internal network is 15 km long, 10 km of which have already been completely renovated with funds from the local budget and individual benefactors of the village. During the past one and a half months, a 3 km long section of the external network was installed, and an 8 km long trench was dug. Reconstruction of the spring catchment is underway.

Most of the work will be completed before the beginning of winter. And after the final completion of the project, our village will have uninterrupted round-the-clock water supply, solving the water supply problem once and for all. True, we almost always had regular water supply, however there were frequent accidents in both the external and internal networks, as a result, especially in the winter months, the village would go without water for days, until we were able to eliminate the accidents. Now, such problems will be excluded", said the head of the community.
